On the rural outskirts of Ağva, 100 km outside Istanbul, I encountered a stray dog on the side of an asphalt road. The dog's gaze reflects a deep awareness, its eye contact a response to changes and potential dangers. This posture showcases its sensitivity to the surroundings while staying vigilant. The watchful expression in its eyes conveys readiness to react swiftly.

The red-eyed leaf frog is a very popular amphibian species in Costa Rica. Most notable are its large red eyes with vertical pupils. Although its beauty lies in the combination of colors that make up its body. This set of photographs was taken in the La Fortuna region, in northern Costa Rica. Although this type of frog is a nocturnal animal, the photographs were taken during the day, at which time it takes the opportunity to rest camouflaged in the large leaves and in the thick jungle.

A walk in the park turned serendipitous life lesson on a warm day in early spring. A scene of unusual circumstances with uncertain outcomes presented itself – five rat snakes (non-venomous) had emerged from hibernation and arranged themselves in the trees. Many people blindly choose fear without finding out information and miss opportunities to truly learn about the world. On this day I chose curiosity over fear.

However beautiful, trees are a vital natural resource. They are also a canary in the coal mine, warning of the disasters of climate change. A Passing speaks to that warning featuring trees along the slopes of Hawaii’s Mauna Kea volcano, depicting death and decline of once lush koa forests. Now ravaged from an unchecked human footprint, A Passing is a fitting metaphor for a world disinclined to heed the ever-worsening signs of climate change. Each image has been digitally blended with gold leaf.
