My name is Ryder Collins and I am a photographer living in Seattle Washington that is in love with photographing those fleeting surprise moments.
My current work, “Fair Season” is about documenting the various county fairs in Washington State. Part of the magic of the fair for me has been observing the intersection of rural and urban living. The agricultural pathway is fading away in Washington and I have noticed the desire of many people to hold onto that way of life.
Fair Season is my attempt to show that there is something so tactile about going to a fair. Riding a rickety old ride, playing a carnival game, people showing their animals in competition, and people selling these animals afterwards - all of this is such a refreshing contrast to the quasi virtual reality that many of us live in through looking through a phone screen.
