Kunstwerk Carlshütte is a non-profit cultural initiative and organizes NordArt, which has been held annually since 1999. NordArt is one of the largest contemporary art exhibitions in Europe, which is redesigned annually and which presents more than 200 selected artists from all over the world – internationally renowned artists and as well as newcomers. As an internationally established forum for cultural education and exchange, NordArt has dedicated itself to the task of enhancing mutual understanding through the language of art.

The exhibition thrives on the varying perspectives of individual cultures, but also points out the fact that East and West, South and North share many common thoughts. To deepen its insights, NordArt devotes its own pavilion to a different country every year and cooperates with embassies, cultural institutions and curators of the respective countries. Specifically appointed artists and special projects have become another permanent fixture within NordArt.

The exhibition grounds include the historic aisles of the iron foundry Carlshütte with their 22,000 square meters of ground area, the charming ACO Wagenremise and an 80,000 square meters sculpture park. NordArt counts more than 100,000 visitors every summer. For an impression of the exhibition site visit the virtual tour. You can find films about NordArt and its artists on the YouTube NordArt channel.

Artists from all over the world can apply to participate in the exhibition. The selection of artworks takes place until the mid-February 2021 by a jury. A list of selected artists and special projects will be published on our website by the beginning of March 2021. All invited artists will be informed and asked to confirm their participation and to send the documents for the catalogue. The delivery of selected artworks is scheduled for the end of April. Thank you for understanding that the artists who could not be selected will not receive a separate notification.

NordArt Prize:
The NordArt Prize worth 10.000 euro has been sponsored by Hans-Julius and Johanna Ahlmann (ACO Group) since 2010. Each year one artist is awarded with the aim to support the art and culture scene. The awardee will be announced during "The Long Night of the Lights" in September and and automatically participate in NordArt the following year, where the award ceremony will take place at the opening.

This body of work is a personal story; a visual telling of the mental and physical impacts of living with chronic pelvic pain while dealing with medical misogyny, misinformation, and incompetence. There is only a thin membrane between what the world sees and the lived reality of my life. I may seem fine as I mask the pain, but if you excavate, even just a little, you will find it is all completely raw. I am lost in the ebb and flow of pain, of heartbreak and despair. I am angry. I am difficult. I am defeated
